Sywell's Charity Airshow beats all records!

23rd August 2010

The Sywell Airshow on Sunday proved to be a fantastic success for the Air Ambulance. Over 10,000 people turned up, over double the number anticipated and over double the number that have ever been to the Air Show at Sywell in the past.

Early indications of the money raised are that the Sywell Air Show will have raised enough money to run the Air Ambulance for a whole month. A great achievement by everyone involved.

Mr Bletsoe-Brown said "It was a fantastic result for all the volunteers that have worked so hard in the run up to the event and during the whole weekend to put on such a fantastic and varied display to raise a significant amount of money for such an important service, the Local Air Ambulance."

"Fortunately for us the weather was absolutely perfect, however, the weather on the South Coast was abysmal preventing the Vulcan from getting airborne. I know this will have been a big disappointment to many who came to see it fly, but I hope people understand and appreciate that the weather prevented the Vulcan departing from Bournemouth and the weather disrupted the Red Arrows' schedule also, so we lost them as well."

"We were overwhelmed by the number of people who came and supported the Air Show. The crowd definitely stretched the Air Show's infrastructure to its limit. It was a record crowd and over twice the number of people that have ever been to the Air Show at Sywell in the past. I would like to thank everyone for being so patient and for their understanding of the delays both arriving and leaving."

"Looking forwards to the next Sywell Air Show, there are obvious improvements that can be made to cater for the increased crowd and those contingencies will be put in place for the next one, based on the experience of this one. The Sywell Air Show last Sunday was a victim of its own success, thank you to everyone who attended in helping to raise such a significant sum for the Air Ambulance. The Sywell Air Show will be back in 2012 better than ever."

An announcement will be made when the final result of the day is known and a date has been arranged for the presentation to the Air Ambulance of the money raised by the Friends of Sywell Aerodrome volunteers.
