Museum gobsmacked and Hunter blinged!
23rd August 2012
Well what an airshow weekend! On top of the fantastic support the Museum received from members of the public the regulars at the Griffin's Head in Mears Ashby had an amazing surprise in store for us too!
With the sad passing of our founding Chairman, Richard Watts late last year, the regulars at his local pub - the Griffin - decided to raise funds to charities which Rich supported in his memory. An epic London to Brighton bike ride followed with members of "Watto's Griffin Enders" being sponsored to raise funds for The British Heart Foundation, Hannah Payne Riding for the Disabled, The Hannah Payne Foundation and Sywell Aviation Museum. We received a stonking sum of £2,080 as a donation following their hard work and dedication and the other charities benefitted too!
It was an absolutely superb effort and this is a HUGE sum to us - as we do not charge for entry we rely on donations to survive.
Thankyou so much to everyone for being simply brilliant and especially to Miranda and Phil, Tessa, Paul and Harry and the regulars at the Griffin - wonderful people one and all...
In other news, our Hunter, WN904, has had a facelift! A very good clean, touch up, wax and new roundels (courtesy of Ollie at Sprint Graphics - top job fella) so she looks almost ready to fire up and take off! Check out her new history page.
The Museum is open every weekend and bank holiday until the end of September (though if the weather is good we may linger on into October - watch this space) from 10.30 - 16.30. We are still looking for artefacts to display, unbuilt model kits and military & aviation books and mannequins... for more information please contact Ben Brown, Museum Secretary.
