Sywell Aviation Museum News
Time Now Flies at School!
13th August 2011
Chris Belton, Headteacher of St John The Baptist Primary School in Colwick, Notts asked the Sywell Aviation Museum for its help in finding a rather unusual new classroom!
The Museum was able to put him in touch with Retro Aviation who supplied an airliner! Shorts 360 G-SSWO. The project relied entirely on volunteer fundraising and, having been delivered earlier in the year from Cumbria, volunteers have completely lined the interior, fitted a 'mockpit', disabled toilet, ramp and completely repainted her! She now sports a smart new School livery. She was formally opened by local MP Vernon Coaker on the 1st July 2011, the main sponsors were Total UK, East Midlands Airport, MWE alarms and Bridgford Electricals.
Chris is a die-hard aviation fan and helped the Sywell Airshow Team extensively at last year's show - he managed the project and even did a sponsored cycle ride to France to raise the money! The Museum is delighted to have been able to help such an ingenious (and green!) use of an aeroplane - and judging by the kid's reaction they think it is pretty fabulous too!
