Museum begins expansion!
18th October 2009
After a cracking 2009 season, the museum has been able to move on to stage one of its expansion plans. Bretton Builders of Northampton were contracted to install two concrete plinths in readiness for the construction of two new huts to add to the existing Museum building. The ground on which the current building sits actually slopes so one end had to be 'dug in' and the other end 'built up'. These bases will accept a new Nissen Hut on each end of the current structure, expanding our display space by 2/3rds and enabling us to bring the Vampire, Chipmunk and Link Trainer inside for the first time. The concrete and ground works alone cost over £7,000 so thank you to all our visitors for their support and especially those who bought extension raffle tickets last year - without you we wouldn't be open!
The Museum is now closed for 2009 which will give the concrete time to cure in readiness for construction work in 2010.
In other news - members enjoyed a trip to The Wheatcroft Military Vehicle Collection at the weekend and were given a guided tour by Kevin Wheatcroft himself! A thoroughly nice chap - who kindly gave up his time to take us round his amazing collection - which us usually kept behind closed doors - more details here.
Membership has its benefits! For more information on the Museum please contact us.
